Trainee SEN Teacher Intern
Role Summary
Jigsaw School, a day school for autistic children aged 4-19, has placements available for university students who are looking to develop their careers in psychology and special educational needs. You will have the opportunity to gain hands on experience of supporting autistic children whilst accessing a wide range of funded training and qualification opportunities in SEN education and Behaviour Analysis. You will receive support and regular supervision from some of the UK’s leading and internationally recognised Behaviour Analytic experts.
Salary: £18,626 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 4.30pm (Tuesdays until 5.30pm)
Holiday: 44 days school holiday plus bank holidays

What will I do during my placement?
- Provide teaching and support to our pupils, following individualised curriculums
- Plan, prepare and deliver lessons and activities, focusing largely on life skills
- Support pupils’ participation in trips, applying theory-based learning to practice
- Provide behaviourally based support to reduce behaviours that impact quality of life
- Provide personal care, encouraging pupils to maintain acceptable levels of hygiene (toileting, feeding)
- Monitor pupil progress, ensuring teaching is appropriate and effective for each child’s needs
- Assist with breaktime duties including playground support and snack time
- Contribute to research and undertake training to support your personal development
What training & qualifications opportunities are there?
- Regular training in Safeguarding, Emergency Medication, Behaviour Management, Personal Care, Autism, First Aid and more
- Behaviour specific qualifications including CABAS Teaching Assistant rank (cabasschools.org) and Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT) (bacb.com)
- In situ teacher training and observations in the classroom
What do I need?
- Professional, personal or voluntary experience of working with children with disabilities
- Minimum Grade C/4 GCSE in English Language & Maths or equivalent
- Comfortable working with children who exhibit behaviour that challenges
- Comfortable supporting others with personal/intimate care where required
- Ability to keep calm in high pressure situations
- Drivers licence or access to a lift (due to remote location of our site)

Learning Support Worker Intern
Role Summary
JigsawPlus, an adult day centre for autistic learners aged 18 and over, has placements available for university students who are looking to develop their careers in psychology and social care. You will have the opportunity to gain hands on experience of supporting autistic adults to grow life skills whilst accessing a wide range of funded training and qualification opportunities in Social Care and Behaviour Analysis. Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.00 pm
Holiday: 23 days plus bank holidays

What will I do during my placement?
- Provide support, care and teaching to autistic adult learners’
- Plan, prepare and deliver lessons and activities supporting the development of knowledge and skills
- Provide behaviourally based support to reduce behaviours that impact quality of life
- Provide personal care, encouraging and enabling adult learners to maintain acceptable levels of hygiene, including toileting, dressing and washing
- Support adult learners’ participation in social, leisure and educational activities within the local community, applying theory-based learning to practice
- Support adult learners to access work experience and employment opportunities
- Contribute to research and undertake training to support personal development
What training & qualifications opportunities are there?

- Access to a range of funded Health & Social Care courses including the Care Certificate
