Jigsaw Enterprises

Jigsaw Enterprises support the personal development of autistic individuals by delivering stimulating, creative and individualised vocational learning.  Recognising the individual abilities and needs of the learners we support, the Enterprises match fulfilling, appropriate and enjoyable opportunities in environments that are safe, caring and supportive.

Investing learners with transferable skills and knowledge to support volunteering, work placements and vocational opportunities

Jigsaw’s enterprise resources are also accessible to 16-18 year olds for work experience placements (SEN) arranged through their schools.

Jigsaw currently runs 2 main enterprise initiatives: Café on the Park, a thriving café facility for the local community on and around Dunsfold Park, near Cranleigh in Surrey; and Jigsaw GARDENworks, a horticultural experience teaching learners about the natural world, life cycles as well as  practical skills that can be used within a garden/horticulture setting.

Café on the Park

Jigsaw’s Café on the Park operates as a social enterprise as well as providing a café facility (breakfasts, delicious snacks, lunches) for tenants and business here on Dunsfold Park and the surrounding areas.

For information on the Cafe’s eat-in and take away services including delicious  seasonable menu items, please visit the dedicated Café page here on this website: Click here: Café on the Park.

The Café is situated in close proximity to JigsawPlus in order to provide the adults we support with an opportunity to work, fully supported, within a busy catering environment and to experience a wide range of activities, tailored to their individual abilities and tolerance levels.

Learners are taught basic skills necessary for food preparation and baking along with various associated tasks integral to running a busy café – from cash handling and til operation through to weekly banking, serving customers and clearing tables, re-stocking front of house displays, cutlery/glass polishing, end of day cleaning and end of month stocktaking.

Working alongside the Café Manager and other members of the Café staff, the adults we support are able to contribute to the smooth running of the day-to-day business. This helps to boost their confidence, promotes a feeling of well-being and enables the acquisition of transferable life skills.

GARDENworks

GARDENworks is our horticultural enterprise delivering a safe and accessible opportunity for a range of indoor and outdoor gardening opportunities. All the adults we support through this enterprise enjoy a range of horticultural activities in and around the Centre for Lifelong Learning, Jigsaw School, Café on the Park and the Dunsfold Park Estate Office as well as our off-site Jigsaw Life Skills Centre in Guildford.

Learners work under the guidance of our Horticultural Manager and are taught many practical and transferable skills such as how to use a watering can and hose, through to weeding, digging and planting seasonal flowers, shrubs and vegetables. They learn about working safely in the garden, the best clothing to wear  for gardening and how to identify, use, clean and store tools correctly.

Sessions also include learning about wildlife and natural lifecycles and how the things they grow and nuture enhances the environment around them.
