We are delighted to share that Jigsaw School has been awarded a Gold Award in this year’s Guildford in Bloom Schools Competition – our fifth successive Gold Award!
Earlier this year, pupils worked alongside Horticulture Tutor Kay Baines during their GARDENworks sessions to design and create an entry inspired by the competition’s 2026 theme, “Food for Nature … Food for Me”. The garden showcased a variety of vegetables, flowers, herbs and fruit, carefully planned to support local wildlife while making the most of a small growing space.
Kay, our Horticulture Tutor, said “Our pupils put so much thought and creativity into this year’s garden. Achieving a fifth consecutive Gold Award is a wonderful recognition of their efforts and of the skills they develop through GARDENworks. We are incredibly proud of everyone involved.”
Guildford in Bloom praised the high standard of entries received this year, saying “17 schools entered our competition this year, and we discovered the overall standard of garden entries to be better than ever. This year’s theme was ‘Food for Nature … Food for Me’, which was embraced by all the schools, from vegetables in raised beds to wall planters, a sensory garden, ponds and even a school allotment. Well done to everyone involved.”
Schools were presented with their certificates and prizes by The Mayor of Guildford, Cllr Jane Tyson, at an awards ceremony held on 1 July at Edwins Garden Centre in Clandon.
Speaking at the event, Cllr Tyson said “As Mayor, one of my greatest pleasures is seeing young people surprise us with their creativity and ideas. The Guildford in Bloom schools’ awards were a wonderful celebration of imagination, teamwork and care for our environment. Every child who took part has helped our borough bloom in more ways than one.”
Guildford in Bloom was established to encourage residents, community groups and businesses to make the area in which we live a greener and more environmentally friendly place. The annual competition promotes good gardening practices while providing valuable habitats for wildlife.
Congratulations to Kay and all our pupils for this fantastic achievement. Winning Gold for the fifth year running is a remarkable accomplishment and reflects the dedication that goes into every GARDENworks project.
